Bequeathed Presidency: Seize the Moment.

The Acting President’s jolt from somnolence is truly remarkable he’s recent actions are somewhat worth our subtle acknowledgement especially knowing the man’s reticence since the imposed emperor took flight so many days ago and taking with him the sceptre of power and dominion to the Kingdom of Riyadh. The whole power play by the mercenaries in government is worrisome and outright laughable. The whole episode between the president, his vice, the national assembly and entire nation can be likened to the cartoon classics of Aladdin, the flying carpet and the genie in the magic lamp. The president and his vice both scheming to grab the magic lamp so as to gain ownership of the genie; for he who owns the genie has all the power to do and undo.
The imposed emperor infiltrated the Nigerian airspace in the dead of the night, like a UFO, on a mission of secrecy to unearth the state of the earthlings within the precinct called Nigeria. While we all slept the merchant of woes brought in the emperor, frail, fragile and gaunt; left at the mercy of the charlatans and courtiers, the emperor became an object of caricature delicately handled and meticulously tempered into the waiting ambulance and whisked into the shadowy night of Abuja darkness to perpetuate the murky subterfuge of Nigerian politics.
The clandestine deployment of soldiers by some highly placed military personnel in connivance with some civilian charlatans to receive the emperor in the dead of the night from his long absence from his beloved country and people was the climax of an epochal event worthy of emulation by other would-be stow-away presidents that the Nigerian political space might produce in years to come. The whole political misadventure is worthy to be documented and further studied in our tertiary institutions in order to decipher the sort of politics we practice in Nigeria; maybe someday the United States might want a lecture or two on governance by confusion and deception.
With the dust settling over who holds the sceptre of leadership and the inescapable reality that the imposed emperor might not be mounting the rostrum of leadership for some time to come; it is therefore important that the emperor be left alone to be nursed back to health by his family and not be made to suffer any more ignominy from the Nigerian populace. Nigerians should rather now focus all of their energies in ensuring that Mr Good-luck does not remain a lame duck for the remaining tenure of this administration. Mr Goodluck has enjoyed unprecedented and copious goodwill both from Providence and from man. He therefore cannot afford to fail; he owes every Nigerian the allegiance of service without hypocrisy or partiality.
Mr Goodluck however does not convince me that he will be his own man. The man appears to me, to be absolutely uncertain about what must be done urgently to move this nation forward. His first few moves since he gained ascendency are truly worrisome. His choices of political appointees and the constitution of an advisory body with no definite assignment does not only appear duplicitous but the personnel that make up the advisory counsel really sends very strong signal that Mr Goodluck is just another stooge in leadership; willing to take all of us on a merry-go-round and drop us off at the very spot we were before his tenure began. I see no real leadership in Mr Goodluck. I see a man confronted wit a task too enormous for him to manage. His actions since he mounted the rostrum are clear indications to me that Mr Goodluck will barely move this nation towards any meaningful direction, before the powers that be jostle him out office.
Mr Goodluck will continue to satisfy the hegemony that almost emasculated the country some months ago. The threats from within the sick president’s camp will always be real to Mr Goodluck. His lack of political sagacity and power naïveté will really hamper his capacity to confront the sick president’s men for any notable change. Mr Goodluck will be the president that we see but the policies that will be implemented will be those of the charlatans within the presidency. Anyone who expects Jonathan to do wonders, needs to reorder his thinking because Jonathan is just another PDP stalwart ready to do his masters’ biddings.
We must remember that this man is also part of the Obasanjo creation; he was part and parcel of the fraud that Obasanjo hurriedly imposed on us after the failure of is third term bid, before exiting into a life of ostentation with his stolen loot. I am therefore very sceptical that any meaningful grounds would be covered before Mr Goodluck also exits with his loot. The recycling of the same people that brought us into the cesspool of international mockery and internal wrangling are beginning to emerge again in Mr Goodluck’s government. The very people that brought the nation into reverse gear are once again given the driver’s seat to further plunge the nation into hopelessness and disarray.
The Jonathan administration must show real leadership if it is to make any real impact in the lives of ordinary Nigerians. Setting up advisory bodies and creating more platforms to accommodate more scavengers access to the national treasury; in order to plunder with impunity and reckless abandon is not particularly a laudable move. The Nigerian landscape is at the moment strewn with all manner of malaise that a little effort from leadership will go a long way in creating succour and respite in the lives of many citizens. The citizens are plagued with all sorts of anomalies; the average Nigerian is hopeless and helpless. The Nigerian space for most people is nothing but a big oppressive state, captained by heartless merchants and pusillanimous midgets incapable of making any effective change in the lives of the people.
The economy is haemorrhaging massively that if something drastic is not done even the looters will not have anything to plunder anymore. The Acting President should awake and be proactive in his approach to national issues. His number one priority should be getting the economy started by providing electricity and guaranteeing the security of life and property. The Jos mayhem will be the real initial challenge that will determine whether this man is actually capable of our continued goodwill or his just another shadowy kleptomaniac only interested in stashing away our collective resources like his predecessors. While the Acting President is attempting his own reforms, may he also please save us the headache of mentioning the phantom 7 point agenda that has almost become an anthem in our polity?
Sire, this is your finest hour that heaven has bequeathed on you, on a plater of gold; it therefore behoves you to take this golden moment and rewrite the history of this nation. Against all odds you have been chosen to lead this country in her most trying time; I hope that you will take up the challenge with all seriousness and determination. The onus is on you to create an auspicious platform for the many minority groups that have been relegated to the background since the creation of the state. Heaven is watching, the people are waiting and posterity will adjudicate where you will occupy in the chronicling of history.
.

Shalom.
